If we can tell ourselves the truth from time to time, everyone wants to have a smooth, glass-like skin. I mean seriously, who doesn’t want that smooth, glowing skin feeling? And you know, with the Harmattan season sometimes trying to dry us out, it’s become even more important.
So, I was admiring myself in the mirror sometime ago, and I kept saying to myself that I needed to go back to my proper skincare. But with the situation of things in Nigeria, who wants to spend 25k and above on one body lotion that won’t last long? That got me thinking, why spend a ton of money on fancy store-bought scrubs when you can whip up something amazing in your kitchen? Plus, you know exactly what’s going into it – no weird chemicals or anything.
My current favorite? A simple coffee scrub. You know, the one with used coffee grounds? Perfect for those mornings when you need a little extra pep in your step and want to tackle some cellulite. Plus, the caffeine is supposed to be great for circulation, which, let’s be honest, we all need a little boost of.

I just mix the grounds with some coconut oil (because, hello, coconut oil benefits are endless!), some honey and a bit of brown sugar for extra exfoliation. If I’m feeling fancy, I’ll add a few drops of essential oil – lavender for relaxation or citrus for a zingy pick-me-up.
And you know, the best part? It’s so easy and affordable! You can use ingredients you probably already have at home. This is a great way to have some DIY skincare and natural beauty tips at your fingertips.
Sometime in 2020, I experimented with a sugar scrub and turmeric for my face alone. Shea butter skincare is a big deal here, right? It leaves my skin feeling so soft and moisturized. I like adding some turmeric powder to it for a little extra glow – because, why not? Turmeric benefits for skin are amazing.
Honestly, it’s been such a fun little project. It’s like a mini spa day every time I use one of these scrubs. And it’s so much better for the environment, too, less plastic waste!
Have you guys tried making your own scrubs? What are your favorite ingredients? I’d love to hear your tips and tricks! Maybe you have some exfoliation techniques you can share!
